 News: SAIX censoring again?

SAIX in the newsLately it has come to our attention that more and more information is possibly been censored by the telkom owned ISP SAIX.

Lately it has come to our attention that more and more information is possibly been censored by the Telkom owned ISP SAIX. I have been following the ongoing problems a local web entrepreneur. This is his story. A couple of weeks one of South Africa’s most popular site (an adult based one), was inaccessible for a large portion of its users. The owner of the site got worried as this is how he creates part of his income to live with. So like any good webmaster he contacted SAIX right away to try resolve the issue. He got turned away. From the information I got from him, he was unable to even contact the relevant people to sort the problem out. “ I think the first problem I have is the process for reporting faults. There is no way anyone can log a fault and there is no escalation process”, he writes. The person who sent me the email is under the distinct impression that SAIX is deliberately blocking his servers. We have evidence in regards to this that Telkom (SAIX) is not above censoring users (Proof of this can be found of the heavily censored SAIX games servers where any attempt to discuss Telkom will get you banned in an instant) This writer is under the impression that the chances of him been censored deliberately are very high. I know for a fact hundreds of emails were sent in daily by him and his supporters to multiple people and department. Are you telling me that Telkom is so stupid they would let a situation escalate for the couple of weeks that it’s been going happening? Wait… don’t answer that. I was informed that this happened two and a half weeks ago after someone on a local wireless product was spamming with their domain email addresses. However, I can not for the light of me understand how it takes 2 and a half weeks to finally acknowledge there’s a problem. There’s something fundamentally wrong with such a company that act like that. The other possible scenario we might have with this situation is that Telkom SAIX may have been hacked. If this is true we could be facing a rather disturbing issue here. Our only totalitarian fixed line operator can not look after its own security? Is your personal information still safe with Telkom? Whether it be extremely bad administration (which I could easy believe) or flaws in SAIX`s security, both raise questions and point at severe negligence on Telkom’s part. At the time of writing this, SAIX had still not resolved the issue. We will keep you updated.
