The Telkom Quiz: How much do you know?

Antitrust News
Take the Antitrust humour quiz to test your level of telecoms knowledge! Seven questions in all, the first two are displayed here:

Select the answer you feel is most correct:

Question 1: Economics

Monopoly Player

Papi looks contented because:

a) He under-paid for his SAT-3 property

b) He passed Go! and collected R2 billion

c) He bought property in Paris

d) He played several forged “Get Your Corporation Out of Jail Free” cards, and the public didn’t notice

Question 2: Art

Touching Yesterday

This poster is a work of art because:

a) It reminds one of the metaphorical ‘rope to hang yourself with’ that a Telkom contract provides

b) It is a perfect example of the minimalist style of Tekom’s ‘service’

c) It describes the InfinitCall service very graphically

d) The artist has managed to use the word ‘competitive’ and still be truthful

Disclaimer: Please be aware that this quiz is a combination of parody and satire. Under no circumstances are any of the suggestions or comments, whether implied directly or indirectly, to be taken seriously. You are encouraged to do your own research and seek alternative viewpoints in order to make up your own mind about the suggestions made herein. Question 3: Politics

Sleeping on the job?
This is Paris Mashile:
a) Hard at work on those ADSL regulations b) Thinking about how he will follow in the footsteps of Andile Ngcaba, Jay Naidoo, or Nat Kekana c) After joining colleague Mamodupi Mohlala for a tough night of moonlighting d) Practicing to be Minister of Communications
Question 4: Critical Thinking

Where's Wally?
This picture: a) Could explain where the Chair of ICASA was on his recent (secret) overseas trip b) Exposes the lie that Telkom is “Proudly South African” c) Is satire which suggests an inappropriate relationship between the Chair of ICASA and the CEO of Telkom d) I don’t get it

Question 5: Fun with Neo-liberalism

Guarding Profits?

Which if the three in this picture has showed an unmatched commitment to protecting Telkom’s high tariffs? a) Candidate number 1: Papi Molotsane, CEO of Telkom b) Candidate number 2: Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, Minister of Communicationsc) Candidate number 3: Paris Mashile, Chair of ICASA
d) All of the above

Question 6: Public Relations

Achievements
Telkom would: a)Approve this advert because it’s pretty, and who cares if it’s true or not? b) Approve this advert because it contains the words “Telkom” and “free” on one page c) Reject this advert because the logo colours are off a pixel d) Reject this advert because they want the public to forget how long they been a monopoly

Question 7: Geography

The World

Telkom would sue someone about this portrayal because: a) The map only contains countries to which Telkom thinks it’s unfair to compare their prices to b) The map understates the enormous geographical challenges presented by the absolutely unique South African landscape c) They think that ‘divide’ is a concept only found in ‘Chinese Maths’ d) Telkom SA (Ltd) has worked hard to build their reputable brand name, and this picture not only violates several international copyright laws, but it also clearly constitutes hate speech and incitement to public violence
Answers
Question 1:
(a) is incorrect because Telkom never paid a darn thing for the SAT-3 cable. Taxpayers funded it.
(b) is incorrect - in the last financial year, Telkom made R9,3 billion
(c) is speculation and since we don't want to get sued, we have to mark this answer as 'incorrect'
(d) is correct

Question 2:
(a) (b) (c) and (d) are all correct!

Question3:
While any of these answers could be correct, we feel that (b) is most correct. Bonus smart points if you know who Andile Ngcaba, Jay Naidoo, and Nat
Kekana are

Question 4:
(c) is most correct. Minus points if you answered (d)

Question 5:
(b) is most correct. Poison Ivy has been hard at work since 1999, protecting Telkom's profits instead of protecting her country

Question 6:
(a) is most correct. Telkom usually doesn't care if their adverts are a
bunch of lies, so long as they are pretty. Just ask the Advertising
Standards Authority of South Africa (ASASA) how many of Telkom's
adverts they have pulled due to false and/or misleading claims. It must
e mentioned that in this case, the 'advert' is true.

Question 7:
(a) (b) (c) and (d) are correct. Just ask Gregg Stirton of Hellkom fame!
