Parliament has called for nominations for ICASA Councillors.
Individuals as well as organisations may put forward their candidate
nominations to parliament. A potential candidate should satisfy the
following conditions:
"• Committed to fairness, freedom of expression, openness and accountability .
• Representative of a broad cross-section of the population of the
Republic and will possess suitable qualifications, expertise and
experience in the fields of, amongst others, broadcasting policy,
electronic communication and postal policy or operations, public policy
development, electronic engineering, law, marketing, journalism,
entertainment, education, economics, finance or any other related
expertise or qualifications .
• A South African citizen permanently resident in the Republic"
In nominating a potential candidate, the nominator is required to include the following information:
"Full name and address of the
institution and/or individual making the nomination;
The nominee's
signed acceptance of the nomination and his/her Curriculum Vitae,
providing at least the following information:
• Full name, ID number
and gender • Contact address, telephone and telefax numbers, e-mail
address • Previous experience, quoting dates and organisations
concerned • Academic qualifications."

REQUESTS FOR PUBLIC INPUT BY PARLIAMENT:
NOMINATIONS: COUNCIL OF THE INDEPENDENT COMMUNICATIONS AUTHORITY OF SOUTH AFRICA (ICASA)
Institutions and/or individuals are hereby invited to nominate
persons to fill three vacancies on the Council of Icasa, as established
in terms of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa
Act (No 13 of 2000).
Persons appointed to the Council must be: .
• Committed to fairness, freedom of expression, openness and accountability .
• Representative of a broad cross-section of the population of the
Republic and will possess suitable qualifications, expertise and
experience in the fields of, amongst others, broadcasting policy,
electronic communication and postal policy or operations, public policy
development, electronic engineering, law, marketing, journalism,
entertainment, education, economics, finance or any other related
expertise or qualifications .
• A South African citizen permanently resident in the Republic.
Written nominations must contain the full name and address of the
institution and/or individual making the nomination, the nominee's
signed acceptance of the nomination and his/her Curriculum Vitae,
providing at least the following information: • Full name, ID number
and gender • Contact address, telephone and telefax numbers, e-mail
address • Previous experience, quoting dates and organisations
concerned • Academic qualifications.
The Committee must publish a shortlist of candidates for appointment
and present its findings to the National Assembly. The NA must submit
to the Minister a list of suitable candidates at least one and a half
times the number of councillors to be appointed. The Minister must
recommend to the NA, from the list contemplated, persons whom she
proposes to appoint to serve on the Council.
